Is your website no longer accessible? You may have forgotten to renew your domain in time, which has led to the domain now being quarantined. Don’t worry, there’s probably nothing to worry about. All you need to do is contact your registrar and renew the domain, if you intend to keep using it of course.

What happens to the domain on expiry day?

Domain in quarantineNormally, on the day of expiry, the domain goes into quarantine. This puts the domain into a 30-day “hold” for renewal. During the pendency period, although the domain is unavailable or inactive, it is still possible to renew it.

Once the quarantine period is over, most domains will enter the redemption period. You should be aware that the cost of renewing and extending a domain in this state can be significantly higher – up to €150 or more. The decision on which domains go into renewal and which domains do not is made by the registrars of the respective TLDs.

For the national .SI domain, the ARNES Registry has decided that after a 30-day quarantine period, the domain simply expires and is then available for registration again. There is therefore no renewal status for .SI, and there is no additional cost for renewing a quarantined domain.

We make sure your domain does not end up in quarantine

Although the word “quarantine” itself is a bit scary, the fact that a domain gets this status is not a bad thing at all. It gives the domain holder time to think about renewal, as no other person or company can register it for an extra month.

The best registrars inform their customers about the expiry of a domain in a timely manner, often by e-mail. This helps to prevent business damage due to an inaccessible website or non-functioning email inboxes.

Tip to avoid problems: when registering a domain, trust us with the email address you use regularly. This way you will reliably receive our expiry notifications and renew your domain in time.
