The .SI domain has seen an incredible surge in interest in recent days. The reason for this is quite unexpected and comes from the United States. In September 2026, US President Donald Trump began publicly discussing a new name for artificial intelligence.

He is not particularly fond of the term Artificial Intelligence or the abbreviation AI, as the word “artificial” can imply something fake or inauthentic. One of the alternative names that emerged was Super Intelligence, along with the abbreviation SI. This is particularly interesting for us, as .SI is Slovenia’s country-code domain.

On 22 September 2026, Trump went a step further during his speech at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, referring to artificial intelligence as super intelligence. Just one week later, on 29 September, he signed an executive order directing the US executive branch to use Super Intelligence and SI instead of Artificial Intelligence and AI in official communications.

.SI Domain Registrations Skyrocket

Increased interest in .SI domains was already noticeable before Trump’s speech, but the discussion surrounding the new name for artificial intelligence gave it an additional boost. Register.si, which operates under Arnes and manages Slovenia’s country-code domain, also reported a sharp increase in registrations. The numbers show just how dramatic the surge was.

In August 2026, 3,515 new .SI domains were registered. In September 2026, that number soared to 46,066. This means that approximately 13 times as many domains were registered in September as in the previous month, representing an increase of more than 1,200%. A look at the daily figures is even more striking.

A significant increase can be seen around the time of Trump’s statements. On 22 September, when Trump spoke about the term Super Intelligence (SI) at the UN General Assembly, 2,139 .SI domains were registered. Just one day later, the number of registrations jumped to 4,478.

Another wave of interest followed at the end of the month when Trump signed an executive order on 29 September calling for the use of the terms Super Intelligence and SI. The following day, as many as 11,331 .SI domains were registered. And the surge did not stop there – by 5 October, daily registrations had reached 21,756.
