This case study is somewhat different from the previous ones, as it was not about transferring the online store from another hosting provider to us, but about migrating from Reseller hosting to TURBO package. The online store Beloved.si was already hosted on our Reseller server before the transfer to the TURBO server, where, due to the size and high traffic of the store, the need for a more powerful package with more server capacities became apparent. After the transfer, speed optimization was also performed.

More and more of our subscribers are aware that a more powerful hosting package is needed for the fast and smooth operation of a heavily visited website. This is especially evident in the case of a larger online store or web portal. At Beloved.si, they decided to try out the TURBO package. Before the transfer, their online store loaded in about 4 seconds, but with the transfer and basic speed optimization, we achieved a 68.70% improvement. Now the loading time is just over a second.

1. SPEED ON THE RESELLER HOSTING PACKAGE

The online store Beloved.si was originally hosted on a Reseller hosting package. The store, set up on the WooCommerce (WordPress) platform, was not optimized for speed at this point, nor was the OPcache PHP extension enabled in the cPanel control panel. The homepage of the online store loaded in about 4 seconds, which was also reflected in the PageSpeed Insights score (44).

2. SPEED AFTER TRANSFER TO THE TURBO PACKAGE

We transferred the online store (without any downtime) from the Reseller server to one of our TURBO servers, which is intended for more demanding websites, larger online stores, and highly visited web portals. The improvement in loading speed was noticeable immediately, as the loading time after the transfer was only 2.59 seconds. Just by transferring to a faster server environment, we accelerated the online store by 36.67%.

3. SPEED AFTER NEOSERV OPTIMIZATION

After reviewing the installed plugins, we found that there was still considerable room for improvement. The basic speed optimization thus included the use of the OPcache extension (caching at the PHP level), optimization of all images on the hosting package, removal of some unnecessary plugins, and installation of plugins for effective caching, minification, and merging of CSS/JS files, as well as on-the-fly image loading. With these measures, we accelerated the online store by a whopping 68.70%.

  • What is the difference between Reseller and TURBO hosting packages?

    Reseller paketi are primarily intended for web agencies and individuals who deal with website creation. The basic feature of Reseller packages is that they allow the subscriber to resell.   • My speed test results are slightly different from yours. Why is there a discrepancy?

    If you have also tested the performance speed of the Beloved.si online store with Chrome DevTools and your results differ slightly from ours, this is completely normal. Perform the speed test several times in a row and you will see that you always get a slightly different result. Based on multiple tests, you can extract average values.

    Do your results differ from ours by more than a second? There can be several reasons for such a discrepancy:

    • Your Chrome DevTools settings differ from ours (e.g., you have the "Disable cache" option checked).
    • The subscriber has uploaded new images to the online store that are not properly optimized (e.g., they are too large).
    • The subscriber has changed the settings of the plugins we used for speed optimization.
    • The subscriber has disabled or removed one of the speed optimization plugins.
    • New plugins that affect loading speed have been installed on the online store.

    There are quite a few possibilities for a larger discrepancy in your results, we have listed only some of the most common ones.
