1. SPEED WITH THE OLD PROVIDER

Before transferring to our server, the Ojla.si website was hosted by one of the smaller local web hosting providers. Test results conducted with the Chrome DevTools tool showed that the website's loading time was about 4 seconds. Almost half of the duration was the time to the first byte (TTFB – Time to First Byte).

2. SPEED IMMEDIATELY AFTER TRANSFER

Since the travel agency Ojla's website is quite visited and it is an extensive website, it made sense for the client to choose one of our TURBO packages. These are packages intended for websites that require a larger amount of server resources (CPU, RAM, etc.). The improvement in responsiveness was visible immediately after the transfer, as the website now displayed to visitors in just over two seconds. Thus, the transfer achieved a 43.10-percent acceleration.

3. SPEED AFTER NEOSERV OPTIMIZATION

Following the transfer of the Ojla.si website to our TURBO server, a basic speed optimization was carried out. This included setting up efficient caching as well as merging and minifying CSS and JS files, for which we used WordPress plugins. We also took care of image optimization and made sure that the OPcache PHP extension was included in the hosting package. After the transfer and optimization, the website now loads in just a second and a half, which, compared to the original state, means an improvement in speed of 61.58%.

  • Which WordPress plugins did you use for the speed optimization of Ojla.si?

    For setting up caching, we used the WordPress plugin WP Super Cache. This plugin was developed by Automattic Inc., which is also known for developing other products – WooCommerce, Akismet, Gravatar, Tumblr, …

    For merging and minifying CSS and JS files, we used the plugin Merge + Minify + Refresh, with which we have the best experience in combination with the WP Super Cache plugin.

  • Which tools did you use to perform the speed tests?

    The performance of speed tests for the case study Ojla.si included the use of the following online tools:

    • Chrome DevTools: a web tool by Google that is built into the Chrome browser and primarily intended for web developers.
    • PageSpeed Insights: a product by Google developers that provides a speed score for a website and suggests what can be further optimized on the page.
  • My results differ slightly from yours. What could be the possible reasons for the discrepancy?

    Deviations in speed test results are completely expected as long as they are within normal limits. If you perform the test with Chrome DevTools several times in a row, you will quickly notice that each result is slightly different.

    If the deviations in your results are greater, there could be several reasons for this, such as:

    • non-optimized images were installed on the travel agency's website;
    • additional plugins were installed that slow down the website;
    • changes were made in the area of page caching (e.g., disabling the WP Super Cache plugin);
    • changes were made in the area of combining or minifying CSS and JS files;
    • other changes occurred that significantly affect the loading speed of the website.
