1. SPEED AT THE OLD PROVIDER

As usual, we conducted a speed test before migrating the site from the old provider to NEOSERV. Using the Google Chrome DevTools, we checked the time of the first request (544 ms) and the total loading time of the website (1.13 s). We also verified the speed rating with the online tool PageSpeed Insights, which reported a score of 44 for the desktop version of the site.

2. SPEED IMMEDIATELY AFTER TRANSFER

The Studioekspert.si website was hosted by a foreign hosting provider before the transfer. By moving the website to our server, we immediately recorded an improvement in speed. The time of the first request after the transfer was only 160 ms (70.59% improvement), and the entire homepage loaded in 726 ms (35.75% improvement). There was also a noticeable improvement in Google's rating, which after the transfer was 61.

3. SPEED AFTER NEOSERV OPTIMIZATION

We achieved further improvement in the website's speed performance with basic speed optimization. This included installing a caching plugin and compressing or optimizing images. To ensure that we did not affect the visible quality of the images, we used so-called lossless compression. The optimization mainly affected the time of the first request, which now stands at 17 ms (96.88% improvement). The total loading time of the page has also decreased, which compared to the original state has been reduced by 57.61%.

Additional explanations regarding speed optimization

  • Could the results after the speed optimization have been even better?

    Considering that we only performed basic optimization of the website's speed performance, we can state that the results could definitely have been even better. We would particularly highlight two measures that could have further improved the loading time of the site:

    1. Installation of an SSL certificate: websites protected with an SSL certificate operate using the newer web protocol HTTP/2. You can read more about this in the article: Why do websites on HTTPS operate faster?
    2. Minification of CSS/JS files: additional improvement could have been achieved by combining and compressing CSS and JS files. Various WordPress plugins (e.g., Autoptimize) are designed for this purpose, but it is important to carefully check whether all elements on the website are displayed correctly after the minification is performed.
  • What are the possible reasons for my speed test results to slightly differ from yours?

    Minor deviations are completely normal, as practically every test will show a slightly different result. If the deviations are larger, possible reasons include:

    • The website owner has made certain changes to the site that affect the loading speed of the website.
    • New (unoptimized) images have been added to the website by the owner, which also affect the total page loading time.
    • It is possible that the caching plugin (WP Super Cache) was disabled or its settings were changed.
    • New plugins have been installed on the website, which means more requests and thus a slightly longer page loading time.

    Of course, it is not certain that you got worse results with the speed test. If you recorded even lower times, one of the possible reasons is that the website owner decided to install an SSL certificate.
