Prior to the transfer to us, the Znam.si web portal was hosted on a server of one of the smaller hosting providers in Slovenia. The loading time was not critical, but the owner of the portal was aware that every tenth of a second saved means more satisfied visitors, higher positions in Google search, and thus more visitors. Therefore, he decided to try our TURBO hosting, which is distinguished by exceptional server performance and operation in a super-fast LiteSpeed server environment.

The decision to test the TURBO package proved to be excellent right after the transfer of the web portal, as the loading time of the homepage decreased by 0.7 seconds. As usual in our case studies, speed optimization followed, with which we further reduced the loading time. With a few basic steps, we sped up the page by an additional 0.3 seconds, so that compared to the initial state, the homepage of the web portal now opens approximately 40% faster.

1. SPEED AT THE OLD PROVIDER

The homepage of the Znam.si web portal at the old provider, one of the smaller Slovenian hosting providers, opened in about 2 and a half seconds. Of this, the time to the first byte (TTFB) was about 1 second. Considering that the website was already somewhat speed optimized, especially since ads are displayed on the portal, the result was not bad. But as you will see in the next two steps, there was still plenty of room for improvement.

2. SPEED IMMEDIATELY AFTER TRANSFER

The owner of the portal decided to test our TURBO hosting package during the free trial period, which boasts exceptionally high performance and is powered by the lightning-fast LiteSpeed web server. The speed results with the Chrome Devtools tool showed that after the transfer to our server, the portal opened 0.7 seconds faster. The time to the first byte also significantly decreased, and accordingly, the Google PageSpeed Insights score improved.

3. SPEED AFTER NEOSERV OPTIMIZATION

With the transfer to the LiteSpeed environment, the web portal was already operating much faster, and with basic speed optimization, our team ensured that the portal now loads even faster. We managed the compression of all images (without visible loss of quality), enabled a newer PHP version (7.4) and the OPcache module, installed and configured a plugin for efficient caching and merging and minification of CSS/JS files. With these measures, we achieved that the homepage of the portal now loads in just a second and a half, which is 40% faster than before the website transfer to our server.
