Razlika med DNS in DDNS gostovanjem

Published:

In the crowd of acronyms from the world of the Internet, we have decided this time to describe in more detail what DNS and DDNS hosting mean. Let us tell you right from the start that DNS and DDNS hosting are different types of hosting.

What is DNS hosting?

DomainName System (DNS) hosting allows you to manually edit the DNS records for your domain. With this type of hosting, you can point your domain to the various servers and services that your domain uses.

If you have registered your domain with us, you can activate and edit DNS hosting through the My NEOSERV subscription centre. Detailed instructions are available in the What is DNS hosting?

What is DDNS hosting?

DDNS stands for Dynamic DNS hosting. Unlike DNS hosting, DDNS automatically refreshes DNS records when an IP address changes. DDNS is therefore used in conjunction with dynamic IP addresses.

For example, suppose the server hosting your website is running at the static IP address 45.653.67.21. In this case, DNS hosting is sufficient. But what if your Internet Service Provider (ISP) offers a dynamic IP address? In this case, we do not need to use a static IP address.

In the case of a dynamic IP address, the server must remember it. Since the IP address changes regularly, we need to update the DNS record periodically. This is where DDNS comes in, making sure that the DNS record is always in sync with the dynamic IP address.

Unlike DNS hosting, which is also offered by NEOSERV, DDNS is a service available from other providers. Among the most popular (paid) is DynDNS hosting.

Four steps are required to activate DynDNS hosting:

  1. Registering on the site and purchasing the DynDNS service.
  2. After successful registration and logging into the user interface, you need to add a host name and domain.
  3. Test if the hostname works. To do this, enter your DDNS address in your web browser, for example mojadomena.dyndns.org. If the page loads, then the DDNS hosting setup has succeeded.
  4. Install and configure the DDNS hosting update software. Detailed instructions can be found on the official website.

If you want to use free DDNS hosting, there are providers available for you: CloudDNS, Securepoint, Dynu , etc.

DDNS hosting is therefore for those who use a dynamic IP address, while DNS hosting is for those who use a static IP address.
