Excellent, we are sure you will not regret your decision. By transferring your domain to NEOSERV, you will enjoy a number of benefits that you wouldn’t have with many other registrars. Just to name a few:

As we receive a lot of questions about domain transfers, and the TLDs’ rules on the transfer process itself are not fully harmonised, we have compiled a list of frequently asked questions and answers. We recommend you read them.

1. Is the transfer process the same for all domains?

The transfer rules vary slightly depending on the TLD. In today’s article, we’ll take a closer look at the rules for transferring .SI domains, as well as the rules that apply to transferring popular generic domains ( gTLDs for short) such as .COM, .NET and .ORG.

2. What is an EPP code?

An EPP code is a unique code used in domain transfers. You receive it from your existing registrar, but for a successful transfer you must communicate it to the registrar you wish to transfer the domain to. Other terms used instead of EPP code are domain transfer password, EPP password, authorisation or authentication code or password ( Auth-Info Code).

3. How is the .SI domain transferred?

Please request an EPP code setup from your current registrar. You can check your subscription interface, as some registrars allow you to set the code within it. If you do not find this option, send an email to the registrar. Forward the code to the new registrar, who will carry out the authorisation and transfer of the domain.

The EPP code is valid for a limited period of time. Once you have set up or obtained the code, you will have 16 days to complete the domain transfer process. If the transfer is not successful within this time, you will need to obtain a new EPP code and resubmit it to the prospective registrar.

The transfer of a .SI domain does not require a simultaneous renewal. Therefore, if you decide to transfer your .SI domain to us, you will not incur any costs. We will transfer the domain free of charge, but you will only need to pay for the renewal when the domain expires. Of course, only if you wish to renew the domain.

4. How do I transfer a generic domain (.COM, .NET, .ORG, etc.)?

The transfer of a generic domain also requires the current registrar to obtain an EPP code. The code should be forwarded to the future registrar who will initiate the domain transfer with the registrar of record. You will receive an email to the email address you provided when registering the domain to confirm the domain transfer request. The notification confirms the start of the process of transferring the domain from the current registrar to the new registrar. The domain should be transferred within 5 to 6 days.

Certain restrictions apply to the transfer of generic domains. If you registered or transferred a domain less than 60 days ago, you will not be able to transfer it to a new registrar. We would also like to remind you not to change the WHOIS data before transferring the domain, as you will have to wait 60 days even if you do.

The rules of the International Domain Name Assignment Network(ICANN) require that a domain name must be renewed for a minimum period of one year at the time of transfer. With NEOSERV, you will benefit from a special promotional price.

5. I have not received an e-mail with a verification link. What now?

It may happen that the domain transfer verification email ends up in spam. So check if the same thing may have happened with this email.

Have you checked your inbox, including spam messages, but can’t find the message with the verification link? If you don’t receive a verification link within 5 days, please contact our support team who will check where it is stuck and start the domain transfer process.

6. How do I know which registrar I have registered my domain with?

Don’t worry, there is a very simple way to find out. Search online for one of the many WHOIS checkers (e.g. Verify.si) and enter your domain in the window. The checker will return various information about your domain, including the name of the current registrar.

7. What are the possible reasons for a failed generic domain transfer?

The following may be reasons for a failed domain transfer:

  • Proven fraud,
  • domain dispute,
  • a court decision,
  • the identity of the person making the transfer is disputed,
  • unpaid domain costs for a previous period,
  • a written objection from the domain holder,
  • locked domain,
  • 60 days have not yet elapsed since the registration or transfer of the domain.
