How to Reach the First Position on Google? – Part 1
Already the sparrows are chirping the word optimization. It’s a process that helps your website rank as high as possible in search engines like Google. This is certainly very important, as it has been proven that as many as 90% of all web visitors search for hits only on the first page of search results.
Because optimization (SEO) is so important for the ranking of websites in search engines, it is all too often highlighted as a secret that only specialized companies and individuals know. But the fact is, there is a lot you can do yourself. The basics are simple and require no special knowledge. You can edit the content of your website yourself, so you’re only a few steps away from a well-optimized site.
There are two branches of website optimization. The first is so-called on-site optimization, which you can easily do yourself. On-site optimization is, as the name suggests, carried out directly on the website. It is mainly about the technical and content editing of the website.
On-site optimization adjusts the elements on the website, and as a result, the website appears higher in organic results in search engines. On-site optimization is the basis for off-site optimization, which we will look at in the next article.
The most important part of on-site optimization is the content on the website.
How to OPTIMIZE web content?
Your website content should be unique, relevant and interesting. It must offer added value to the reader. The font size should also be large enough, because you don’t want your visitors to read your content with a magnifying glass, do you? In addition to the above, the web content must be free of grammatical errors.
One of the most important things in on-site optimization is the so-called keywords, which must appear in the right way throughout the content. The frequency of keywords should not be exaggerated, as Google is now so sophisticated that such manipulation is quickly detected and the website penalized. We recommend that the density of keywords should not exceed 3% of the total content of each page of the website.
If you want your website to appear in Google when someone types “apartments in Bovec” into a search engine, then that is your keyword or keyword phrase. You need to make sure that this (or similar) phrase appears multiple times on each page of your website – e.g. 1x in the main headline and another 2x or 3x in the content that follows.
Image OPTIMIZATION is also important
Research has repeatedly shown that websites that include images rank higher in Google search. So it’s a good idea to add them to your website. But be warned that:
- image files are not too large (e.g. up to 100 KB);
- the files are properly named (the file name should make it clear what is in the image);
- the images you post are accompanied by so-called alt tags;
- add title tags to the published images.
You know what they say: “A picture tells a thousand words”. Google is well aware of this and rewards image-rich content with increased visibility in its search engine.
The page should load as quickly as possible
An important factor that influences the position of your website in Google search is the speed at which your website loads. Visitors should not wait more than a few seconds for a web page to load. Nowadays, everyone is in a hurry and there is a lot of competition on the web, so everyone can quickly find a competing, faster-performing website.
