5 Ways to Reduce Spam Emails
I’m sure you’ve received plenty of offers for Viagra, counterfeit products, obscene invitations, Nigerian scams, etc. Research shows that more than 85% of e-mails are ad-oriented or unsolicited (spam).
The fact is that we cannot completely get rid of unsolicited emails, also known as SPAM, but we can reduce the number of emails we receive through various methods. Your webmail client already automatically filters SPAM messages and moves them to a separate folder. However, sometimes they end up among your preferred mail. It also happens that the filter misdetects a message you want and redirects it to the junk mail. We can’t eliminate this completely, but we can reduce the number of inappropriate filtrations.
1. Tune up your filter
When you find SPAM among your desired mail, first mark it as unwanted, then delete it. How you do this depends on the individual webmail client. Do the reverse for your preferred mail if it is marked as junk. Your filter will learn over time and will filter the mail according to the settings you have specified, which will at least reduce the problem somewhat.
2. Never reply to SPAM messages
If you have opened an unsolicited message, do not click on the links in the message or open any attachments. It is best, of course, not to open such messages at all.
If you receive SPAM from a known sender, alert them as soon as possible that their email account has been misused and that they are sending spam.
3. Hide your email address
The more people who have your email address, the more SPAM mail you can get.
Don’t post it online unless you really need to. You can also solve the problem by registering an additional email address that you use only to sign up for different portals, receive newsletters, etc.
4. Use an anti-spam filter
If you have your email address set up through a subscription to a hosting package, then we advise you to set up an Anti-spam filter. You can read more about this in the article How to prevent receiving unsolicited (spam) emails.
5. Change your email address
This is of course the last, most drastic option. This is an option if you have replied to spam in the past or if your email address has been misused and you are receiving huge amounts of SPAM.
In this case, you will of course need to inform all your friends and acquaintances that you have changed your email address. You will therefore probably have to use both for a few months. Once you have redirected all your mail to the new address, and if you follow the other steps, then you can significantly reduce the amount of spam you receive.
