How to Prevent Email Spam with MailScanner (cPanel)
In this article, we’ll look at how to use the MailScanner tool you have installed in cPanel to reduce the amount of spam you receive. MailScanner is a tool that automatically filters unsolicited e-mail (SPAM) using various techniques.
MailScanner
Constantly receiving unsolicited email (SPAM) fills up our inbox, and unsolicited email (SPAM) can contain viruses and malicious links.
When you enable MailScanner, it uses an estimate of the likelihood that the email you receive is SPAM. Using the MailScanner tool settings, you can mark or redirect unwanted emails to specific folders in several ways, or simply delete them.
Although you can set MailScanner to automatically delete messages marked as SPAM, we recommend that you set up the appropriate filters to redirect your spam to the appropriate folder.
Enabling MailScanner
To make sure that our services work as well as possible for you, we have MailScanner enabled on our servers by default. You can, however, customise it to suit your needs.
To set up the MailScanner tool in cPanel, please follow these instructions:
1. Log in to your cPanel.
2. In the Mail section, search for and click on MailScanner.
3. Click on Other settings. To enable automatic deletion of unsolicited email (SPAM), edit the scoringspaM. And confirm by clicking Change.
Score: the lower the score – the more spam will be deleted and vice versa. If you set the score to 1, MailScanner will delete emails more aggressively, but if you set the automatic detection to 10, more spam will arrive in your inbox because it will not be automatically deleted.
Setting up the MailScanner tool in cPanel
1. In the Mail section, search for and click on MailScanner.
2. On the MailScanner page, click Email Black/Whitelist settings.
3. In the Spam Whitelist text box, you can enter email addresses that you know and trust.
4. In the Spam Blacklist text box, you can enter e-mail addresses that are known spammers.
When adding a specific e-mail address to the whitelist or blacklist, remember to enter the full e-mail address, for example info@vasadomena.si, in addition to the domain name when entering the name.
If you would like to block or allow all e-mail addresses linked to a specific domain, you can also enter an asterisk (*) before the @ sign instead of the name, for example *@vasadomena.si.
7. To save the new settings, click Change.
