USER INSTRUCTIONS

Search instructions

If you are running a VPS server and have CentOS 7 or Ubuntu installed and are using cPanel, you can use the instructions below to help you change the PHP version and settings.

In your hosting package, you can specify the desired PHP version for each domain or subdomain individually, and you can also change other PHP settings.

  1. How do I change the PHP version for an individual domain or subdomain?
  2. How do I change the PHP settings?
  3. How do I check the selected PHP version and settings?

The appearance of the icons in the cPanel dashboard may differ from the icons in this article, depending on the theme you choose.

1. How do I change the PHP version?

You can do this in the cPanel -> Software -> MultiPHP Manager icon.

cPanel (Jupiter) - MultiPHP Manager

In the list , tick the domain or subdomain you want to change the PHP version for and select the desired version from the drop-down menu (top right). Then click the Apply button to apply the changes.

The currently selected PHP version for each domain or subdomain can be seen in the list.

If you have made changes to additional PHP settings, the changes will only apply to the version of PHP for which they were edited. If you change PHP versions, you will have to re-enter the changes.

You can check which changes have been made for the currently selected version in various files (for example, php.ini and .htaccess files) located in the folder where the domain is directed (in the case of the hosting package’s carrier domain, it is directed to the public_html folder). If you do not see these files, you can also turn on the display of hidden files and folders.

The simplest way to access the files is via cPanel -> Files section -> File Manager icon.

cPanel - File Manager - filesAn example of a php.ini file can be seen below. The selected PHP version is written in the session.save.path line, where the selected version(php74) is specified at the end, so in this case PHP 7.4.

We advise you not to edit changes in these files, as this may cause problems with the operation. To edit additional PHP settings, follow the procedure below, where the values will then be automatically added to the files by cPanel.

2. How do I change the PHP settings?

You can also edit the PHP settings for an individual domain or subdomain in the cPanel -> Software -> MultiPHP INI Editor icon.

cPanel (Jupiter) - MultiPHP INI Editor

a) Changing PHP settings in the editor

You can easily change the PHP settings for a domain or subdomain in the editor (under the Basic Mode tab, which is already selected by default). Select the desired domain or subdomain from the list below to see the options for changing PHP settings.

You can also check all PHP settings by creating a .PHP file with any name (for example, test.php) in the folder where the domain is pointed and writing the function: <?php phpinfo(); ?>

PHP command - phpinfoThe file you have created can be viewed in a browser (enter the path to the file in the URL, for example https://vasadomena.si/test.php), where you can check the PHP version you have chosen and other PHP settings.
