How to Identify the Database Connected to Your Website
Search results for: ""
Static (HTML) websites do not use databases, while dynamic ones do. The latter include most CMS systems such as WordPress, Joomla, Prestashop, Magento, etc.
Sometimes it happens that we need information about which database our website uses. For example:
- When migrating a website,
- when we want to restore it from backup copies.
Where does it say which database my website uses?
This depends on the system your website uses. If it is a custom-made website, please contact the website builder to find out where your configuration file is located.
If it is one of the well-known CMS systems, you can check online where or in which file you need to enter the data to connect to the MySQL database. For the most common systems, we have already written this here:
- WordPress: file “wp-config.php”,
- Joomla: file “configuration.php”,
- Drupal: file “settings.php”,
- PrestaShop 1.6 (and older): files “settings.inc” and “config/settings.inc”,
- PrestaShop 1.7: file “app/config/parameters.php”,
- OpenCart: files “config.php” and “admin/config.php”,
- Magento 1: file “app/etc/local.xml”,
- Magento 2: file “app/etc/env.php”.
