Only the server administrator can change the carrier domain on a hosting package. If you wish to change the carrier domain, please contact us by phone or email. After changing the carrier domain of the package, some changes will need to be made to restore the normal functioning of the website and email.

1. Old carrier domain

Do you want to continue using the domain that was previously the package’s carrier domain? In this case, you can add this domain to your hosting package as an Added Domain or as a Parked Domain.

  • If you only want to use email addresses on this domain, add it as a Parked Domain (or Alias).
  • If you also want to use the domain for a website, add it as an Added Domain.

You can add a domain as an Added Domain or Alias in the cPanel Dashboard -> Domains section -> Domains icon. For further details, see the instructions on how to add domains in cPanel.

When removing a domain from cPanel, email forwarders and additional or modified DNS records, if you have entered them for the domain, are also removed. Before removing a domain, any subdomains associated with that domain, if you have any, must also be removed and recreated when you re-add the domain (the files themselves will not be deleted). Also, when you re-add, SSL certificates, if any, must be re-installed.

2. Website files

If you want to replace a website located in the public_html folder along with the carrier domain, now is the time to do it. This is because the carrier domain of your hosting package displays a website that is located directly in the public_html folder of your hosting package.

You can move the files to the appropriate location using the cPanel File Manager tool. It is possible (depending on your website) that you may need to make some adjustments to the settings of the website itself to make it work normally.

What if you want the previous carrier domain and website to still work? In this case, add the previous carrier domain as an Added domain in the cPanel control panel. Then move the files of this website from the public_html folder to the folder where the newly added Added Domain points.

Most websites still need to be modified to work on the new configuration. Some websites require a change to the settings in the configuration file, while others require the paths to the files in the database to be corrected. However, if it is a static HTML website that does not use a database, no further changes are usually necessary.

3. Subdomains

Let’s assume you want to replace the carrier domain of the domain1.com package with domain2.com. In this case, all subdomains of the current carrier domain will change accordingly – the blog.domena1.si subdomain will become the blog.domain2.com subdomain.

If you still need subdomains on the old carrier domain, you will need to re-create them.

You can add and edit subdomains in the cPanel -> Domains section -> Domains icon. For more information, see the instructions on how to add Subdomains in the cPanel.
