How to Archive / Compress Files and Folders

Files can be packed or compressed in several different formats, such as .ZIP, .RAR, .TAR.GZ, etc. For uploading files to the server, the .ZIP, .TAR.GZ or .BZ2 format is suitable.

Files can be compressed with various programs, for example WinZip, WinRar or 7-Zip. Read on to find out how to package files with these programs.

1. WinZip

Select the website files, right-click on them and select WinZip -> Add to Zip file …..

In the ” File name” box you can change the name of the .ZIP file and in the ” Destination” box you can change the location where you want to save the file. Then click the Add button and wait for the file compression process to complete.

2. WinRar

Select the website files, right-click on them and select Add to archive …..

Under Archive type, select .ZIP and click OK and wait for the file compression process to complete.

3. 7-Zip

Select the website files, right-click on them and select 7-Zip -> Compress to archive…..

In the ” Archive” box you can change the path to the .ZIP file and its name, and in the “Archive format” box you can change the location where you want to save the file. Then click OK and wait for the file compression process to complete.
