How to Migrate Email to a New Hosting Provider
When you move from your old hosting package to the new one, you can also transfer your emails to the new hosting package. The simplest way to do this is to use an email client such as Microsoft Outlook and Mozilla Thunderbird.
Before you start transferring your emails to the new server, make sure that your emails are (also) stored on the server, or that all your emails are transferred to your computer:
a) If you are using the POP protocol, all messages are stored on your computer and no migration to the new server is necessary.
b) If you use the IMAP protocol or just the web interface for email, transferring the email messages to a new server is necessary if you do not want to lose them.
You can read more about the difference between POP and IMAP here.
How to transfer emails from old to new hosting
1.) Install an email client (for example Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird).
2.) In your email client, add the email account whose messages you want to transfer to the new hosting. Use the IMAP protocol. For detailed instructions on how to set up your email client, please contact our support team.
3.) Add the same email account to the email client again, but use the new hosting details for the settings. When re-adding the email account, choose a different account name, otherwise the software will not let you create a new account (example: Mozilla Thunderbird).
If the domain still points to the old hosting (usual), the actual name of the server hosting your domain should be entered as the server name for incoming and outgoing mail.
For example, for the incoming/outgoing server, enter the name of the server you are hosting on. Please check in your My NEOSERV Subscription Centre which of our servers you are hosting on. Once you are logged in, click on the Your domains/hosting tab, and click on your hosting package.
The name of your server is written in the window.
Once you have done this, copy all the emails from the old account to the new account. You can usually do this by highlighting the messages you want to copy, right-clicking on them, selecting the copy command, and choosing the email account and folder you want to copy the messages to. The messages are then synchronised and transferred to your new hosting.
You can see how this can be done in Mozilla Thunderbird in the following screenshot. The process is similar in most email clients.
