Outlook Error 0x800CCC05 – How to Fix It
There are several possible causes for Outlook error 0x800CCC05, which most often means that you are unable to send or receive email. One of them is that your device is not connected to the Internet. So, to start with, make sure that your internet connection is working.
The cause of Outlook error 0x800CCC05 will most likely have to be looked for elsewhere. It is more likely that Outlook is blocked from accessing the Internet by a firewall.
How to fix Outlook error 0x800CCC05?
Turn off the firewall and re-enter the name of the incoming and outgoing server
Although it is not recommended to shut down the firewall, you may be able to resolve the Outlook error in this way. Don’t worry, you’ll be able to turn the firewall back on later.
- Close the Outlook email client.
- In Windows, open the Control Panel.
- Select Network and Internet.
- Click Network and Sharing Center.
- Click on Windows Defender Firewall in the bottom left corner of the window.
- Then click on Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off in the left-hand menu.
- Turn the firewall off and click OK to confirm the change.
- Reopen Outlook and re-add the name of the incoming and outgoing server in Account Settings.
- Check that the problem has been resolved.
If sending and receiving email works, add Outlook.exe to the firewall exceptions list. Read how to do this in this article. If the problem with disabling the firewall has not been resolved, re-enable the firewall and follow the instructions below.
If you are using an IMAP email account, redefine the send/receive groups
Outlook error 0x800CCC05 can also be caused by incorrect send/receive settings in the IMAP email account. Perform the following procedure in Outlook:
- Go to File > Options> Advanced.
- On the Advanced tab, locate and click the Send/Receive button.
- In the new window, click on the Edit button.
- Then, in the next window, tick the Get folder unread count for subscribed folders option and select Use the custom behaviour below. Specify the send/receive groups for the IMAP email account again.
- At the bottom, select only the Inbox folder.
- Finally, click OK a few times to save your changes.
- You can now try sending the email again.
Run Outlook in safe mode to check if the problem is caused by add-ons
If none of the solutions described above resolved Outlook error 0x800CCC05, the problem may be related to one of the Outlook add-ins. Therefore, try running the email client in Safe Mode.
- Close Outlook and navigate to the Start menu. In the search box, type outlook.exe /safe and press enter, which will start Outlook in safe mode.
- Scroll to File > Options> Add-ins > Go.
- In the newly opened window, uninstall add-ins one by one, checking in between that sending and receiving emails is working. This will help you to identify which of the add-ons is causing the problem.
