Have you received error 0x80042109 in Outlook? This is an error that occurs when sending an email. Most often the error is displayed as follows:

Error 0x80042109 means that Outlook is unable to connect to the outgoing SMTP server to send email. In most cases, the reason for the error is an incorrect protocol setting. In rare cases, it is due to the settings of the antivirus or firewall in the operating system.

The first step to resolve the error is to test whether it is caused by your antivirus or firewall. Disable them and try sending the email through Outlook again. If the error still occurs, then the reason for the error is in your Outlook settings.

As we have already written, in most cases error 0x80042109 is caused by incorrect SMTP protocol settings. The default value of this protocol in Outlook is 25. For correct operation, this value must be set to 26 or 587.

Setting the SMTP protocol in 6 steps

Follow the steps below to successfully change the SMTP protocol for sending emails.

1. Click on File and select Settings -> Account Settings -> Account Options -> Account Settings -> Account Settings.
