Microsoft Outlook is one of the most popular email clients because it makes it easy to work with and keep a good overview of the emails you receive and send. However, an error may occur that prevents you from receiving and/or sending emails.

One of the possible errors that can occur is error 0x8004DF0B. The error results in the e-mail being disabled from being received, while the sending works smoothly. It is entirely possible that only one email account is not receiving emails, while the others are not experiencing the problem.

Outlook error 0x8004DF0B

The content of the error displayed by the email client is as follows:

The task "Synchronize subscribed folders for [email]" has an error message (0x8004DF0B): "Outlook cannot synchronize subscribed folders for [email]. Error. To complete the action, Outlook must have a connection established. If you continue to receive this message, please contact your server administrator or Internet Service Provider (ISP)."

If you have English configured, however, the content of the error is as follows:

Task 'Synchronizing subscribed folders for [email].' reported error (0x8004DF0B) : 'Outlook cannot synchronize subscribed folders for [email]. Error: The connection to the server is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

3. Scroll to the next Startup tab and click on the Open Task Manager link.

Task Manager - Startup

5. In the System Configuration window – Startup tab – confirm your changes by clicking OK.

6. Restart your computer.

Windows 8 / Windows 8.1 / Windows 7 / Windows Vista users will find instructions on how to perform a Clean Boot at the highlighted link: Perform a Clean Boot in Windows (Microsoft Help Centre).

Once your operating system has rebooted, open your Outlook email client and check that your email is now working. Error 0x8004DF0B should have been resolved.

You can now restart Windows in normal mode:

  1. Reopen the Task Manager application and in the Startup tab, enable all processes that were running before the changes were made.
  2. Save your changes and restart the operating system.
