Outlook Error 501 SMTPUTF8 used when not advertised

When sending an email to one or more recipients, did you receive a notification that the mail was not successfully delivered? Did you get the following error in your Outlook email client window?

The "address@yourdomain.com - sending" task returned an error message (0x800CCC78): "Message could not be sent. Please check the email address in the account properties. The server replied: 501 SMTPUTF8 used when not advertised"

• 501 SMTPUTF8 used when not advertised
• local-part of envelope RCPT address contains utf8 but remote server did not offer SMTPUTF8

… the cause of the error is most likely related to an incorrect record of at least one of the recipients of the e-mail message you want to send.

Please check the full list of recipients and pay attention to special characters such as alphas, the letter đ and so on. Also make sure there are no spaces in the email address.

It may be that the recipient’s server does not provide support for special characters. In this case, you will receive a return message or a notification noting the above error.
