USER INSTRUCTIONS

Search instructions

Squarespace is one of the most popular platforms for setting up a website. It is a web-based tool that makes it quick and easy to set up a website, and is particularly impressive because it does not require the user to have any design or programming skills. Practically everything can be arranged by selecting a pre-made graphic template and using the so-called drag & drop functionality.

You connect your domain to Squarespace by first defining your domain in the Squarespace platform itself, and then editing the appropriate DNS records in the cPanel control panel or in the My NEOSERV subscription centre.

The process of connecting your domain to the Squarespace website is quite straightforward. However, if you have any problems, we’ll be happy to help you and take care of the correct DNS records for you – free of charge. Call us on 059 335 000 or email us at info@neoserv.si.

Directions

Setting up a domain in the Squarespace web platform

First, you need to specify which domain you want to use in the Squarespace interface.

  1. On the Squarespace administration landing page (Home Menu), click on Settings and then select Domains.
  2. Click on Use a Domain I Own to select your domain.
  3. In the Domain Name field, enter the full name of your domain (example: vasadomena.si) and continue the process by clicking Continue.
  4. Click on Connect From Provider.
  5. Select Other from the drop-down menu.
  6. Connect your domain by clicking on Connect Domain.
  7. In the message that appears, click Okay.

A window will pop up with the DNS records you will need to connect your domain to Squarespace.

DNS records for Squarespace

As shown in the image above, the A and CNAME records will be listed. If you have both a domain registered with us and a hosting package, please follow the instructions in the next section. However, if you only have a registered domain (and do not have a hosting package), jump to the last part of the instructions where the link to using DNS hosting is described.

Connecting a domain to Squarespace via cPanel

Do you have a domain registered with us and a hosting package? If so, you can edit your DNS records in the cPanel control panel that you received access to when you purchased hosting.

1. Log in to the cPanel control panel (login instructions).

2. In the DOMAINS section, click on the Zone Editor icon.

cPanel - Zone Editor

3. In the list, find the domain you want to associate with the Squarespace site and click on MANAGE.

4. Click on the blue + ADD RECORD button (top right) to add a new DNS record:

  • In the first field, copy the unique code made up of letters and numbers that you obtained from the Squarespace list of DNS records (IMPORTANT: do not copy the code from the image we used to prepare these instructions, but use your own unique code!).
  • Set the TTL setting to 300. This means that the DNS record will be refreshed in 300 seconds.
  • For the DNS record type, select CNAME.
  • In the right-hand box for the record itself (Record), type: verify.squarespace.com
  • Confirm the new DNS record by clicking on the ADD RECORD button.

5. In the list of DNS records in cPanel , look for the CNAME record with the following added in the first column (Name): www.vasadomena.si. Click EDIT to edit the record accordingly:

  • In the right-hand box (Record), type: ext-cust.squarespace.com
  • Confirm the change by clicking on the SAVE RECORD button.

cPanel - Zone Manager - change CNAME record for Squarespace

6. Then click + ADD RECORD to add the A records that are visible in the DNS records list in Squarespace. Enter the domain address in the left box (example: vasadomena.si.), set the TTL to 300, select A as the record type, and enter the IP: 198.185.159.144 in the right box. Confirm by clicking ADD RECORD.

7. Repeat the process of entering record A three more times with the following IP records:

  • 198.185.159.145
  • 198.49.23.144
  • 198.49.23.145

Note: When entering the above three IPs, use the same information as you used when entering the first IP(vasadomena.si. / 300 / A).

Connecting a domain to Squarespace with NEOSERV DNS hosting

If you have only registered a domain with us and have not decided to lease web hosting, you can arrange the corresponding DNS records in the My NEOSERV Subscription Centre. But first you will need to activate your DNS hosting. So how do I use DNS hosting to connect a domain to Squarespace?

1. Log in to the My NEOSERV Subscription Centre (login instructions).

2. Navigate to YOUR DOMAIN / HOSTING and click on the domain you want to associate with your Squarespace website in the list of services.

My NEOSERV - List of services

3. Select Edit DNS Records and then click on Enable DNS Record Editing in the bottom right corner. This will activate DNS hosting.

My NEOSERV - Enable editing of DNS records

4. Click on the ADD DNS RECORD button and start adding DNS records. You will need to add all the records (CNAME and A) that are recorded in the Squarespace list. See the following figure for an example of adding the first (CNAME) record.

My NEOSERV - Adding a CNAME record for Squarespace

5. Click Add to confirm the DNS record entry and then repeat the process for all other records.

NOTE: Instead of the @ sign, which appears multiple times in the Squarespace list of DNS records (for all A records), enter vasadomena.si. For the TTL setting, set the value to 300.

If you have followed the procedure and therefore only recently activated DNS hosting, wait 4 to 24 hours for the DNS servers to refresh. However, if you have had DNS hosting activated from before, the domain will point to your Squarespace website within 5 to 10 minutes.
