Going on holiday and want to send an automatic reply to everyone who sends you an email during your holiday, informing them of your absence? Autoresponder allows you to do just that, and is often used during sick leave, seminars, training courses, etc.

Users of the cPanel control panel can set up an autoresponder for their email inbox in just a few steps.

How to create an autoresponder?

1. Log in to the cPanel Control Panel (login instructions).

2. In the Email icon set, look for the Autoresponders icon and click on it.

3. Click the Add Autoresponder button.

4. Edit the autoresponder settings for your email inbox.

In the settings section, fill in the fields:

  • Character Set: leave the default value for the character set – utf-8.
  • Interval: Set the interval (in hours) between sending automated messages to the same recipient. Tip: Set the interval to 24 hours or more.
  • Email: Enter the email address for which you want to set an autoresponder.
  • Domain: Select the domain to which your email box is bound.
  • From: Enter the text that will be displayed to the recipient from whom the autoresponder was received.
  • Subject: Enter the subject of the email (e.g. Autoresponder: Absence Notification).
  • This message cointains HTML: If you want to include HTML elements in the message, tick the box.
  • Body: Enter the text of the message that will be automatically sent to the sender.
  • Start: Specify whether you want to activate the auto-responder immediately or on the desired date.
  • Stop: Specify whether you do not want to switch off the autoresponder or select the desired date.

You can also use the %subject% (the address of the email sent to you by the sender), %from% (the sender’s name, if available) and %email% (the sender’s email address) tags to set up an autoresponder.

5. Confirm the settings by clicking on the Create button, which will create the autoresponder.

How do I remove an autoresponder?

If you have not set a date for the answering machine to switch off automatically, you can manually remove it.

1. In the cPanel Control Panel, locate the Email icon section and click on the Autoresponders icon.

2. In the list of autoresponders, find the one you want to remove and click Delete.

3. In the new window, confirm your choice to delete the autoresponder by clicking on the Delete Autoresponder button.
