USER INSTRUCTIONS

Search instructions

In case you have installed an SSL certificate on the domain and you want the website to be displayed via an HTTPS connection, the WordPress website needs to be adjusted to display correctly at the desired address. You can also edit the display of the website on the WWW subdomain in the same way, if this is more visually pleasing to you.

WordPress has the address where it is displayed (for example http://vasadomena.si) entered in the database, and the paths to the files that are displayed on the website can also be linked to this address. For the website to work properly, the paths in the database must be corrected.

As the paths in the database can be written in several places, even just as relations, we advise you to edit this with the appropriate plug-in, which will correct all the paths you specify.

Before you start making changes to the website, we therefore advise you to make a backup copy of the website’s database (and in rare cases, if the domain is also written in files, make a backup copy of the files as well; the website needs both the files and the database to function).

We should add here that backup copies of the hosting package are already made on the server on a daily, weekly and monthly basis, so that you can restore the site at any time if necessary. However, if you have already made changes to the page or received orders during the day when you want to make the change of the page address, these will be lost if you restore from the backups. In this case, we advise you to make your own backup before doing so.

How to adapt a WordPress website to display on HTTPS or WWW

If you don’t need an additional backup copy of your website, you can check the instructions on how to adapt a WordPress website to HTTPS here (if you only want to display it on the WWW subdomain, you can use the same instructions, just enter the desired page address when making changes). If you do need one, please follow the instructions below first.

Making an additional (own) backup copy

As written, you can also make your own backup copy of the website, which you can also download and save on your computer if you wish.

If you are only making changes to the database, a backup copy of the database is sufficient, but otherwise you should also make a backup copy of the files of the website you are editing.

Not sure which MySQL database is the right one?

1. First, open your cPanel control panel -> Files section -> File Manager icon.

cPanel - File Manager

2. Select the folder where your website is located. If it is the carrier domain of your hosting package, the site is located in the “public_html” folder, otherwise check in the cPanel control panel which folder your domain is directed to (cPanel -> Addon Domains or Subdomains if the site is displayed on a subdomain, for example “blog.vasadomena.si”).

3. In the folder where the page is located, locate the file“wp-config.php“, right-click on it and select View. In the second “paragraph” you will find the information you need:
/** The name of the database for WordPress */
define('DB_NAME', 'database_name');

4. Download and save a backup copy of the database and website files. For the exact procedure, see How to create backup copies and download them to your computer.

We are always available by phone or email for any further questions.
